STOCKTON sprinter Richard Kilty will attempt to put the disappointment of last week’s World Championships sprint relay behind him when he returns to action in the Great North City Games on the Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside.

Kilty, who is the reigning World and European Indoor 60m champion, will line up in the 150m on the banks of the River Tyne on Saturday, September 12.

The 26-year-old could not hide his frustration after Britain’s 4x100m relay squad failed to finish the World Championships final in Beijing last weekend.

The North-Easterner, who ran the opening leg, was furious when anchor man CJ Ujah failed to receive the baton at the top of the home straight, but he will attempt to finish his season with a flourish when he returns to home soil for the City Games, which act as a prelude to the following day’s Great North Run.

He will line up against British team-mate Danny Talbot, who ran the second leg in last weekend’s ill-fated relay final, as well as Nickel Ashmeade, who was part of the triumphant Jamaican sprint relay squad at the World Championships, and Churandy Martina, the Dutchman who finished fourth in the Olympic 100m final at London 2012.

The men’s 100m at the City Games will feature Ujah, who reached the semi-finals of the 100m in Beijing, and his GB team-mate, James Dasaolu, who is the reigning European champion at the distance.

Also lining up in the shorter sprint on Tyneside will be America Mike Rodgers, who was fifth in the 100m final at the World Championships, and Kim Collins, the 39-year-old veteran from St Kitts who won the world 100m title in Paris 12 years ago.
