GREAT BRITAIN internationals Nick Swinburn and Rosie Smith took the honours with clear-cut victories in yesterday's Aycliffe 10K.

Morpeth Harrier Swinburn, the 27-year-old North-East cross country championships silver-medallist and fourth in the biug Blaydon Race two weeks earlier, clocked 31 mins 14 secs, beating Crook veteran Carl Chapman by a nearly three minutes, with Quakers' Michael Joyeux in third place.

Durham City Harrier Smith, the North-East cross country champion, who set the Aycliffe course record of 34 mins 24 secs in 2012, was more than a minute slower with a winning time of 35 mins 48 secs, but still a comfortable 29 seconds clear of Middlesbrough Mandale's Josephine Stone, winner of last year's big Middlesbrough Teespride 10K. It was an early birthday present for Smith, 30 next weekend.

North-East junior men's pole vault champion Charlie Myers shared the gold medal in the England Athletics Under-20 Championships at Bedford when the 18-yuear-old Mandale athlete cleared a new personal-best of 5.15m to tie with Wigan's 2013 World Youth champion Harry Coppell.
