Runners and spectators will get the chance of a close-up look at the location of the BBC television drama The Paradise when the fifth Lambton Run is held tomorrow (10am).

The 10K race is held in the grounds of Lambton Estate, near Chester-le-Street, and takes in location scenes from The Paradise, including Lambton Castle.

The multi-terrain event, organised by the Sunderland AFC Foundation of Light, attracted an entry of 600 runners last year, when the men's and women's races were won by Sunderland Harriers Mark Hood and Michelle Avery. The injured Hood is unable to defend his title, but Avery is expected to be on the start line.

Entries will be accepted on the day and there will be a 3K family fun run, starting at 10.05am.

Aycliffe Running Club are offering £100 bonuses for new course records when they host host their annual 10K road race tomorrow (10am).

Former Chester-le-Street runner Martin Scaife's 2001 record of 30 mins 38 secs still stands, while the women's best time is held by Durham City's Rosie Smith, who clocked 34 mins 24 secs in 2012. Teesside-based Ethiopian Paralympian Wondiye Fikre Indelbu was only 13 seconds outside the record when he won the race for a second time last year. There will also be a 3K fun run, starting at 9.15am. Late entries will be accepted at Greenfield Community School.

Teams from Northumberland, Durham, Cleveland and Cumbria will compete in today's Inter Counties Schools Championships at Gateshead International Stadium, which will host the English Schools Championships on July 10 and 11.

Margaret Adeoye will captain Great Britain and Northern Ireland at this month's European Athletics Team Championships.

British Athletics has announced the 400-metre runner will lead a 46-strong side at the event in Cheboksary, Russia, on June 21-22.

Performance director Neil Black said: "I was delighted to offer Margaret this captaincy. Mags is a proven championship performer and I know we can rely on her to inspire and look out for her team-mates."

Adeoye, a 4x400m relay bronze medallist at the 2013 World Championships, will compete in the individual 400m as well as the 4x400m and 4x100m relays at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium.

The 30-year-old said: "I had a missed call from Neil last week and thought what have I done? I wasn't going to call back in case I was in trouble. I was shocked when he told me he wanted me to be the captain. After it sank in I felt huge pride and very privileged to have been asked."
