PARALYMPICS 1500m silver-medallist Wondiye Fikre Indelbu out-sprinted Morpeth's 44-year-old former Great Britain international Ian Hudspith to win a thrilling finish to the Middlesbrough 5K inside the Riverside Stadium.

Ethiopian Indelbu, now running for Crook AC and winner of last month's Sunderland 10K, clocked 14 mins 58 secs to be given the timekeeper's verdict by one second, improving on last year's second-placing behind Teessider Matty Hynes.

Third was another North-East based Ethiopian, Elswick's Tadele Geremew (15 mins 7 secs), whose partner, three-times Blaydon race winner Justina Heslop finished 31st overall to take the women's crown in 16 mins 40 secs, 57 seconds clear of last year's Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10K winner, Mandale's Josephine Stone.
