JARROW and Hebburn's Andy Burn turned the tables on previous winner Jim Bulman to take the title in yesterday's 32nd Redcar Half Marathon.

The 32-year-old Tynesider was third in 2012 when the New Marske veteran won the event, but Burn underlined his steady improvement since they last clashed to record a clear-cut victory by seven seconds over his 43-year-old rival on the seafront at Redcar, recording a winning time of 71 mins 46 secs. Luke Adams, of South Shields, was third in 74 mins 2 secs.

It was Burn's first victory over the distance, though he had recorded wins this year in the Bridges of Tyne five miler in July and the Pier to Pier race between South Shields and Sunderland in May.

The women's race was saw a runaway victory by Pocklington Runners' Helen Cross, who beat New Marske over-45 Kay Neesam by over seven minutes. Cross, who clocked 79 mins 22 secs, was second in last year's event and was runner-up in this summer's TeesPride 10K.
