Darlington unveil plans to buy 250-seat stand

THE Quakers have revealed plans to buy a stand which would increase seating at their temporary home and move with the club when it returns to Darlington.
Community company Darlington FC 1883 (DFC 1883) is looking to purchase a 250- seater stand to be initially erected at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park.
It would then be dismantled and re-erected when a permanent home in Darlington was found, said DFC 1883 chairman Denis Pinnegar.
Mr Pinnegar said the £42,000 cost would be covered by working capital and from sponsorship.
One proposal is to charge fans £100 to sponsor a seat which would give them the option of reserving that seat for five years.
The club, working with Bishop Auckland FC, is hoping that planning permission for the improvements can be fast-tracked through in time for the start of next season.
An alternative option of buying a second-hand stand, which may be quicker to arrange, is also being considered.
Mr Pinnegar said: “We had an average attendance of 1,400 to 1,600 last year and 600 of those were concessions.
“We have quite a lot of elderly and disabled supporters and we want to provide suitable accommodation for them.”
The club confirmed last night that informal discussion had been held with a representative of Evo-Stik about a shirt sponsorship deal for next season.
Craig McKenna, DFC 1883 project manager, said that the discussions would not go any further until after the FA appeal hearing, which takes place on Thursday, when football bosses will decide which league the club plays in next season. In a further development, Quakers legend David Hodgson has agreed to sit on an advisory group helping the DFC 1883 board.
Mr Hodgson said that he had been hugely impressed by Mr Pinnegar and the board, which he said were operating with total transparency.
The former manager said that the club’s recent financial problems had been no surprise to him.
He added: “This football club has been teetering on disaster for many years.
“It has been through some bad ownership and bad leadership and it was always going to end one way.
“But the wonderful thing is that it has now reached the bottom and is starting to climb upwards.”
Mr Hodgson added: “I think that Martin Gray as manager is the best thing that could have happened to Darlington FC.”

Response to Taffydav above..
Its a well known fact ,If you attended Darlo FC matches you would have been surrounded by them....As regards the club being in trouble you should know the reasons why............
It's continuing because of support from these fans plus others who have donated and don't forget Shaun who saved it at the 11th hour.!

Surely every penny should be going towards the playing staff in order to build a team which can win games and leagues rather than wasting a valuable resource on infrastructure.
Here we go again, this is the same mistake repeated the same as everyone ever involved with the club.
Put every penny of resource into the playing staff only when you have a team winning gamnes and leagues do you want to think about hardware, get the sponsor into a player purchase.

Can you never say anything good about what the club is doing?
I bet you had a bloody good whinge when they won at Wembley as well. I stopped commenting on the Echo as each time you had to have a whinge or a dig, why bother mate, go and do something good about the club, you're not investing you're not going to the games, why does it bother you?

Buying a 250 seater stand is not dissimilar to building the arena! I think you should really go and have a lie down and get your brain in gear before you post. Your hatred for 1883 has unbalanced you. This is a sensible measure to provide facilities for elderly and disabled supporters. Well done 1883 this shows you are listening to what ordinary supporters want.

The club could have been liquidated and been in the same place, the assets could have been bought more cheeply, debts could have been avoided and you would have been in the same league as you are now only debt free and with a lot more money to spend on a team.
The club would have been the same as it is in the eye of the beholder as to whether it is new or historic, no different as to what is happening to Rangers.
Its not hinesight just business common sense, maybe you lot should get some..

The 70k wasn't wasted on assets, it was used to fund the club until the end of the season.
This stand is clearly needed, the fans are asking for it and it will pay for itself.
You need to stop making an embaressment of yourself and if you are able to contribute properly, then do so.

I have said many things and on many occassions I have been hammered by so called fans even though I know I will probably be correct in the long run.
I see no reason to use my resources on a club or fan base who use their slogan 'Our football club is for life not just for bussiness' without the comprehension that without substantial resources their future could remain outside the main league structure for a very long time, although I am saddened by this the real club I supported is now in my opinion dead.
The childish and boring comments come from people like yourself who are happy to criticise individuals, without knowing their circumstances.
I am no longer willing to invest in this club, I have tried many times to indicate a way that would have given the potential for large investments but the opportunity has now passed.
If you are such a true fan then you should happily put the 200k in for your one irrelevant vote, so why dont you.
