CRAIG LIDDLE bemoaned Darlington's failure to take their chances during last night' 2-0 defeat at Southport.
Quakers are now joint-fourth bottom, but their situation could have been different had Ryan Bowman not missed a chance before Southport took an eighth-minute lead at Haig Avenue.
"We lacked belief in and around their box that we were going to score," said Liddle. "Before they scored we had a chance to score but didn't take it.
"If you look at the goals scored column in the table, it doesn't lie. We're near the bottom of the table for a reason and that's because we don't believe we can score.
"The first half was good and we played some decent stuff, but I disappointed in the second half performance. It wasn't anywhere near the standards that we have set before and it was probably as poor as we've seen since I've been in caretaker charge.
"The early goal in the second half, after two basic mistakes, cost us because then the game was more or less finished."
It is hoped that a deal will be signed today securing the future of the club.
Liddle, who revealed that he tried to sign a player on Monday but was blocked by the Conference, added: "I don't know really know what the situation is, but the sooner that it is sorted out the better because we need to bring some bodies in."
