KEITH LAMB has urged football fans from the North-East to unite and head for the Riverside Stadium to watch the England Under-21s at the end of the month.
England face Belgium in a crucial European Under-21s Championships qualifier on February 29, when the size of the crowd could determine whether they will make a return in the future.
A healthy crowd will also boost the chances of a pre-Olympic qualifier being held on Teesside turf later this year, provided ticket sales are going well in advance.
Lamb, a member of the Football Association board, said: "It's important to have the game here. It's also a decent kick-off time of 6pm. Prices £10 for adults and £5 for children. If we can get a full house at the Riverside then I'm sure England team would be delighted."
He added: "What we need is good support. If we can get a good turn out, which shows the people of Teesside and the North-East are a good supporter of England, then that would be the platform that would probably convince the FA to bring Team GB to the training ground and possibly even a match to the Riverside."
Tickets for the Under-21s match are on sale now by calling 0844 4991234 or at the club.
