BLAYDON could draft in a couple of Newcastle Falcons players for Saturday's home game against Cambridge following the last-gasp defeat at Barking.

For the second successive season, they had victory snatched away by the Londoners, who scored an injury time try and added a difficult conversion for a 28-26 win.

Barking, who finished second in National One last season, were outgunned up front by Blaydon, who failed to make the most of their possession and missed five shots at goal.

They could have their former centre James Fitzpatrick available this week, along with Barnard Castle School product Tom Catterick and prop James Hall, who were all required by the Falcons for Friday night's narrow defeat in a friendly against Edinburgh.

Lock Chris Wearmouth was Blaydon's outstanding player at Barking, while new Director of Rugby Micky Ward helped to ensure front row domination.

They took the lead when new fly Niall Rowark broke from midfield to supply young winger Frazer Wilson, who beat his marker to race in from 25 metres.

It was 11-11 at half-time after Andrew Baggett landed a brace of penalties and he added a third, but was also off target with three kicks.

Full back Gavin Painter took over the kicking and added the conversion following a penalty try when Barking collapsed a scrum. Flanker Rob Bell also touched down a pushover try resulting from further scrum domination and Blaydon looked certain winners at 26-21.

They opted to give Painter a difficult shot at goal when awarded an injury time penalty, but he missed then Blaydon caught the clearance, only to run the ball and lose it, allowing Barking to hack on and score.

Tynedale won 39-24 at home to Stourbridge after racing into a 24-0 lead through tries by scrum-half Dominic Shaw, winger Hamish Smales and prop Jonny Williams, with Matty Outson converting all three and adding a penalty.

Williams was sin-binned for throwing a punch, followed immediately by debutant lock Myles Scott for killing the ball, and Stourbridge twice drove over from line-outs either side of Smales' second try.

Scott grabbed Tynedale's fifth try, converted by fly-half Joel Hodgson, who went on as a replacement, just as he had for the Falcons in Edinburgh the previous night.

Stourbridge again scored from a line-out before winger Nathan Bressington also touched down. Hodgson landed a late penalty for Tynedale.

Stockton gave a very competitive display in losing an intense friendly 35-33 against Gateshead, who won promotion from their league last season. Full back Dan Phinn's second try had given Stockton a 33-28 lead with five minutes to go.
