‘Dressing room camaraderie is key for Pools’

A STRONG dressing room spirit will go a long way at Hartlepool United this season.

While things have been chaotic off the pitch, with the exit of the club’s director of sport and chief executive three weeks ago, on it, Pools have impressed so far.

Under coach and temporary boss Mick Wadsworth, Pools have been at times a more solid unit.

And midfielder Antony Sweeney admitted: “Spirit in the team and squad is good and that’s important for us.

“You think back a few years ago when we had the likes of Mark Tinkler and Darrell Clarke, we had a massive togetherness then.

“It helped us to be successful and it showed in how well we did. We ended up in the play-offs without having the best team it the league and part of that reason is togetherness.

“If we can get that and keep it, and add to the squad as well with a bit of quality we can hopefully pick up points and won’t be at the bottom end.’’ Wadsworth, after five games in temporary command, echoed Sweeney’s thoughts.

“This is a club that has got really tight togetherness and it’s a smashing place to work because of that,’’ he said.

“We really stick up for each other and I like that camaraderie.

“We’ve got a tight bunch of fans who are fantastic and this team will do okay I’m sure.

“We looked at the away form in the summer and we’ve made ourselves a bit stronger in midfield.’’ Pools are expecting James Brown to be fit for the weekend’s home game with Exeter, but fear Joe Gamble will be out for a longer spell with an ankle injury.
