KYLE Coetzer has made an unexpectedly swift recovery from a foot injury and returns to the Durham team to entertain group leaders Warwickshire in tomorrow’s CB 40 match.

Just over a week ago it was reported that Coetzer was out for the season, but he comes in along with Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick as Dale Benkenstein, Stephen Harmison and Michael Di Venuto are rested.

While a Lord’s final beckons for Warwickshire, who appear to be one-day specialists this season, there is little at stake for Durham, who are sixth out of eight in their group with four games left.

Benkenstein is unlikely to play any more one-day cricket this season because of a niggling injury, while Di Venuto’s return to 40-over cricket has proved to be shortlived.

Three years ago Coetzer became the regular No 3 in the one-day side, but he hasn’t featured in any limited-overs cricket this season.

Since winning two of their first three games either side of a washout, Durham have beaten only Scotland in this competition as their batsmen have struggled.

Durham: P Mustard (capt), M D Stoneman, B W Harmison, B A Stokes, G J Muchall, K J Coetzer, I D Blackwell, G R Breese, S G Borthwick, L E Plunkett, M E Claydon, C Rushworth.

On Monday Durham travel to Somerset, who are four points behind championship leaders Nottinghamshire after thrashing Essex. The defeat for Essex, who are next to the bottom, means there is little chance of Durham being pulled back into relegation trouble as they are 14 points ahead of Essex with two games in hand.
