SCOTT McDonald will make his Middlesbrough debut in this evening's Championship home game with Barnsley.

The Australia international, who arrived for £3.5m on transfer deadline day, has shaken off a hernia problem to replace Lee Miller in Boro's starting line up.

McDonald is one of four changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Ipswich on Saturday.

David Wheater, Boro's goalscorer at Portman Road, misses out with a knee problem, with his place in the back four being taken by the fit-again Emanuel Pogatetz.

Barry Robson and Jonathan Franks start in the midfield in place of Justin Hoyte and Andrew Taylor.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-4-2): Coyne; Naughton, McManus, Grounds, Pogatetz; Flood, O'Neil, Robson, Franks; Killen, McDonald.

Subs: Steele (gk), Hoyte, Lita, Miller, Bennett, McMahon, L Williams.

BARNSLEY (4-5-1): Steele; Trippier, Moore, Foster, Dickinson; Teixeira, Colace, De Silva, Doyle, Hallfredsson; Gray.

Subs: Preece (gk), Hume, Rodriguez, Butterfield, Macken, Potter, Hammill.
