COLIN Larkin admits he could have no complaints if he’s not in the Pool">Hartlepool United side this evening.

Pools meet Brentford at Victoria Park on the back of Tuesday’s disappointing loss in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Victoria Park.

Boss Chris Turner offered his squad players a chance to make their mark, but straight-talking Larkin admits he did not make the most of his opportunity.

“Did I do enough to push for a place on Friday? Me, personally, I don’t think so,’’ he reflected.

“But if I’m starting or not hopefully I can get a sniff and play well for the team.

“All I can do is keep chipping away. I’m not really a player that gets low on confidence, I believe in my own ability and if I’m in the team or not I’m the same person.

“I work as hard off the pitch as I do on it and I do extra as well after training.’’ The summer signing from Northampton admitted: “It was the chance for some of the lads who have done well in the reserves and on the fringes to grab a chance and I don’t think I did it.

“But we created a lot of chances and when it clicks for us someone is going to get a good beating.

“We weren’t good enough to win the game but hopefully we can put on a good performance on Friday night and get the right result.

“We felt we should have beaten Grimsby, no disrespect to them. They had a gameplan, got their goals and were hard to break down after that.’’ Larkin scored in Pools’ last win – a 3-0 victory over Walsall a fortnight ago.

With James Brown likely to be absent tonight with a back injury, he is up against Leon McSweeney for a start on the right flank.

“I don’t really mind where I play, either on the right or up front,’’ admitted the Irishman.

“I like playing up front because I love scoring goals but I equally like setting them up as well. I’ve probably played half of my career on the right wing and it comes naturally to me, probably because I’m quite quick and I’m a good crosser of the ball as well.’’ Pools: Flinders; Haslam, Collins, Liddle, Austin; Larkin, Sweeney, Humphreys, Monkhouse; Boyd, Behan
