NEWCASTLE Falcons flanker Ed Williamson has signed a new two-year deal at Kingston Park.

The former Barnard Castle School pupil, who made his Newcastle debut in 2004, has scored two tries in 17 first-team appearances this season.

"Ed is a tough competitor who has made great progress this season," said Falcons director of rugby Steve Bates. "He brings a very abrasive edge to our game with his direct running around the park, and has been a key component in what has been a much improved pack this season."

Williamson added: "I've really enjoyed my rugby this season, I'm working hard to improve my game and I'm looking forward to the next two years with the Falcons.

"There is real competition for places in the back row with quality in every position, but that can only bode well for the future here."
