EDDIE HOWE admits Newcastle United hope to be active in the transfer market in the next seven days – but the Magpies head coach refused to be drawn on the club’s ongoing interest in Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle officials are understood to have made a renewed approach for Gordon today, and are closing in on a potential deal for the 21-year-old.

The Magpies are understood to be willing to pay an up-front fee of around £25m for the England Under-21 international, with a further £15m of potential add-ons also set to be included in the deal.

Howe refused to discuss Gordon specifically, but confirmed that Newcastle are hoping to complete some transfer business ahead of next Tuesday night’s deadline.

He said: “Honestly, I’ve got no idea (whether there have been developments over the Gordon deal). I’ve been preparing for the game, so I’ve got no idea. But I wouldn’t comment on individual players anyway.

“I’ve got no idea if we’ve got any closer to anything, but we’re actively looking, I have said that. But as of tonight, I have no update.”
