Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley wants his players to bounce back at home to AFC Telford United in the Vanarama National League.

Moors are without a win this season in four league games after losing at Bradford Park Avenue on Tuesday night on the back of three draws against Chester, Darlington and Altrincham, but Ainsley believes that their points haul could have been so much better.

And now he’s aiming for that first win of the season against their unbeaten visitors.

“It’s annoying that we’ve only picked up three points from four games, because I think in each of the four games we have played well in long spells,” he said.

“If we had taken our chances on Tuesday night at Bradford when we had a great spell just after half time and were in their box loads of times, then we would have won the game. We dominated a game away from home against a team that is near the top end of the table.

“It’s all ifs and buts, and we’re scratching our heads as to why we haven’t won yet. We played a lot worse last season when we won games right at the start.

“We need to get that first win under our belts, because the longer it takes to do that, then people become more and more anxious.

“The players have given me everything in these first four matches, and we’re not far away. We’re brilliant from one 18 yard box to the other, but we must cut out the sloppy mistakes in defence and take our chances at the other end.

“Telford, though will give us a tough game. They’ve started the season well and have had some good results so far.”

Midfielder Ryan Hall is hoping to return from injury to a full squad.

Ainsley is apparently interested in Chester striker Shaun Tuton, who used to be at Barnsley, and has submitted seven days’ notice of approach which run out early next week.

Telford United, meanwhile, have made a great start to the season, and are unbeaten in their four league games so far. They have beaten Southport and Brackley at home, and drawn away at Guiseley and Kidderminster. Gavin Cowan, who was previously coach, replaced Rob Edwards during the summer.

Marske United begin their new adventure in the EvoStik League East with a home game against Sheffield, while South Shields, with three promotions in three seasons behind them, are at home to Witton Albion in the Premier Division.
