Dael Fry is the only Boro player to keep his place from last weekend's 1-0 league win over Birmingham.
There are four debutants in the Teessiders' starting line-up, with Andy Lonergan, Enes Mahmutovic, Nathan McGinley and Harry Chapman all selected in the starting line-up.
Paddy McNair makes his first competitive start following his summer move from Sunderland, while Daniel Ayala returns to make his first appearance of the season at centre-half.
Nathan Wood has been selected on the substitutes' bench, and the defender will become Boro's youngest ever player at the age of 16 years and 75 days if he comes onto the field.
