LUTON TOWN (4-4-2):

Stech 6; Stacey 6, Potts 5, Sheehan 6, PEARSON 7; McCormack 6, Mpanzu 5, Grant 5 (Cornick 66, 5), Lee 6 (Jervis 90, 3); Collins 5 (Rea 86, 4), Hylton 5

SUNDERLAND (4-3-3):

6 McLaughlin: Solid enough, and little else to do except pick the ball out of the net for the Luton goal

6 Matthews: Had to get to grips with the home forward line in the first half, but settled in later

7 Loovens: Perhaps should have done better with his first-half glancing header, but his experience will be pivotal this campaign

7 Baldwin: An impressive debut for the League One old hand, his partnership with Loovens already looking promising

6 Oviedo: Put in a decent cross for Maguire in the second half - performed his defensive duties well

6 Mumba: Tired very early in the second half but the 16-year-old can be pleased with his contribution

7 Power: Already fitting into the midfield even after only joining the club this past Friday, and much hope rests on him this season

6 Honeyman: Played his part in the centre of the pitch, alongside Power and Mumba

6 Gooch: No 96th minute heroics this week but his effort, especially in the second half, contributed to the result

8 MAGUIRE: Was moved to the centre, and his corners and set-piece delivery were the main sources of the Sunderland threat

6 Maja: Two goals in two games for the 19-year-old, with his latest effort before the break being taken very well

Subs:

5 Cattermole (for Mumba 54): Came on early in the second half, and put his header from a free kick wide

O’Nien (for Maja, 90)

Molyneux (for Gooch, 90)

(not used): Ruiter (gk), Hume, Ozturk, Embleton,

Man of the Match: CHRIS MAGUIRE - Many feel he was more suited to being in the centre, and was definitely effective there. His quality of set-piece delivery perhaps deserved a goal.
