NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):
6 Dubravka: Made an excellent second-half save to deny Sissoko, but was uncharacteristically edgy with his clearances
5 Yedlin: Lost Alli completely as the midfielder headed home Spurs’ winner and suffered a late knee injury that is a major concern
6 Lascelles: The pick of the Newcastle back four as he successfully denied Kane too much space in the final third
5 Clark: Preferred to summer signing Schar, but struggled whenever Spurs’ attacking midfielders broke into the box
5 Dummett: Had his hands full with both Moura and Aurier and couldn’t cut off Spurs’ supply line in the first half
7 Shelvey: Started slowly, but became much more of an influence in the second half as his passes drove Newcastle forward
6 Diame: Was off the pace for much of the first period, but almost drew Newcastle level with a shot that crashed against the post
6 Ritchie: Delivered a peach of a cross for Joselu’s header, and was furious when he was replaced midway through the second half
6 Perez: Not one of the Spaniard’s most influential games as he struggled to get on the ball in the final third
8 KENEDY: Troubled the Spurs defence with a series of fast-paced dribbles, but should have done better when he broke into the box in the second half
7 Joselu: Took his goal superbly as he burst ahead of Sanchez and ran himself into the ground as a lone striker
Subs:
6 Rondon (for Joselu, 59): Became the first Venezuelan to play for Newcastle, and almost scored with a deflected shot that hit the crossbar
5 Atsu (for Ritchie, 68): Provided some pace and energy, but didn’t always choose the right option when he had the ball
Muto (for Perez, 80)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Manquillo, Schar, Ki.
TOTTENHAM (4-3-2-1):
Lloris 7; Aurier 7, Sanchez 7, Vertonghen 7, Davies 6; Sissoko 6, Dier 6 (Amos 88), ALLI 9 (Son 80); Moura 7 (Dembele 68, 5), Eriksen 8; Kane 5.
Subs (not used): Vorm (gk), Alderweireld, Walker-Peters, Llorente.
Man Of The Match: DELE ALLI – The midfielder didn’t always look fit during England’s World Cup matches, but he was right back to his best here.
