MIDDLESBROUGH

Huddersfield Town are ready to go head-to-head with Wolves to compete for Boro’s winger Adama Traore.

Both clubs are aware of a clause in the Spaniard’s contract which allows him to leave if a release fee is met – with reports suggesting that stands at around the £18m mark.

Traore is someone manager Tony Pulis wants to keep hold of but if either the Terriers or Wolves trigger that release clause then it will boil down to what the player wants.

Huddersfield are ready to move for Traore after allowing Tom Ince to join Stoke City. Newcastle are known to be one of the other clubs keen on the Boro winger if money can be raised first.

There was a long line of scouts and club representatives at Rochdale on Tuesday to run the rule over some of Middlesbrough’s fringe and youngsters.

Lewis Wing and Harry Chapman are two of those in the spotlight, with numerous clubs interested in taking them on loan for this up-coming season including Blackburn.

Burnley, interested in York's former Middlesbrough academy player Vinnie Steels, were among those there to keep tabs on a few too.

NEWCASTLE

World Cup defender Fabian Schar is on the verge of a Magpies move.

Newcastle have agreed a £3.5m fee with Deportivo la Coruna and the 26-year-old is set to become Rafa Benitez’s fourth signing of the summer.

Schar was one of Switzerland’s key-men in Russia and was a regular for Deportivo last year after leaving Hoffenheim, having previously played for Basel.

Benitez knows he wants to spend more money in the market and is relying on selling others to raise the cash because Mike Ashley won’t loosen the purse strings.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is a contender to bring in a sizeable chunk but Newcastle are holding out for the £20m they rate him at rather than let him join Fulham for the £16m being offered.

Goalkeeper Matz Sels, on the other hand, is close to joining Strasbourg.

SUNDERLAND

Watford forward Jerome Sinclair is nearing a switch to Sunderland.

The former Liverpool youngster was unable to force his way into the Hornets side on a regular basis last season and is being allowed to leave.

Sinclair left Liverpool at the end of his contract but Watford still had to pay £4m in compensation because he was under the age of 24.

Sunderland are desperate for additions in the final third and have turned to Sinclair having become frustrated in pursuits of Mohamed Eisa and Charlie Wyke.

Sunderland have still not given up on landing Wyke from Bradford, although the Bantams are resisting the offers so far for the former Boro front-man.

Jack Ross is still looking to strengthen in other areas too and Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones is in his sights.
