CALLUM McMANAMAN has told Sunderland’s fans the club is in good hands under the management of Jack Ross.

McManaman sealed his ideal move back to former club Wigan today when he signed a one-year deal after the Latics agreed an undisclosed fee with the Black Cats for his services.

It is not thought to be a huge sum of money, given he had a decent contract at the Stadium of Light and he has only gone on to sign a 12-month deal at the DW Stadium.

But McManaman, who had been happy enough to stay at Sunderland in League One if Wigan couldn’t agree a deal, was enjoying the work under Ross and he thinks that is a sign brighter times could be around the corner.

The 27-year-old is a fond admirer of the St Mirren boss having only worked under him a few weeks – and the winger impressed during his friendly appearance at Grimsby in midweek.

McManaman said: "The gaffer there (Ross) is brilliant and I think they’ll do really well this season. I’ve played in a few matches already in pre-season and got some minutes under my belt."

It was the prospect of returning to Wigan, and the Championship, which led to his Sunderland departure - just days after Sunderland owner Stewart Donald claimed McManaman was happy to stay.

"I didn't want to leave (Wigan) in the first place to be honest. I'm made up to be home and to get going again," said McManaman.

"I've been following games for the last few years, especially last season and the gaffer's style definitely suits me.

"When I spoke to him he's been great and all of the lads speak very highly of him. I've had some great times at this club and I'm only still 27-years-old, so I can't see why I can't have more good times here. I want to go one better."
