FEYENOORD are offering Newcastle United a fresh chance to land January target Nicolai Jorgensen after lowering their valuation.

Jorgensen is looking to move on this summer and his Dutch employers are ready to let him after a frustrating spell since turning down the Magpies’ £15m offer at the start of the year.

Such an offer now would certainly seal a deal for Jorgensen, although Newcastle will only be tempted into a deal if it was for less given how things have turned out.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, who still admires the Danish international, has turned his attention to Nice’s £27m-rated Alessane Plea this summer as well as West Brom’s Salomon Rondon, who has a £16.5m release clause.

The situation with Plea has changed today, with Borussia Monchengladbach increasing negotiations with Nice in a bid to beat Newcastle and West Ham to his signature. No deal is agreed yet though.

Jorgensen would have to offer greater value for money than both of those to change his mind, having been left frustrated by Feyenoord’s refusal to budge on the £18m asking price in the last window.

The 27-year-old will be leaving the Rotterdam club this summer it is just a case of how much they receive from interested clubs.

He has had a difficult time recently too, missing the penalty for Denmark against Croatia that led to elimination from the World Cup. Jorgensen has since received death threats from angry Denmark fans.

Newcastle will be conscious of his morale and state of mind after a frustrating seven months since failing to land the move he would have liked to St James’ Park. Benitez, though, clearly admires him and still has him on his list of targets even if he is not top choice.

Benitez wants to have a third new face on board at least by the time they head for Ireland for a pre-season training trip next week; a striker and winger are his preferred options at this stage.

Chelsea’s wide-man Kenedy and Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend are the two wingers he wants most, and if he can get one of those deals over the line then he is likely to sanction the sale of Matt Ritchie to Stoke City.

The Potters have seen a £15m deal effectively stall because of Newcastle’s failure to add more players, even though Ritchie is aware that there is a £4m-a-year deal waiting for him at Stoke.

Newcastle are on the verge of moving on Mikel Merino after Real Sociedad met the £10m release clause in his contract.

He has been linked with a return to Spain for months and it seems he will now get that move, even if it is not to Athletic Bilbao who were the front-runners.
Newcastle already have a new midfielder signed up in the shape of Ki Sung-Yueng and Benitez is considering others too.
