JACK ROSS is adamant he will not be naming any of Sunderland’s want-away players in his starting line-up next season.

The Black Cats are ready to launch disciplinary action against Papy Djilobodji and Didier Ndong after they both once again failed to turn up for pre-season training yesterday.

The pair’s agents have been instructed to seek out new employers, but neither Djilobodji nor Ndong were given permission to extend their break and Sunderland are assessing their options before contacting the duo.

Lamine Kone did return to training last week, but the Ivory Coast international has spelled out his desire to leave this summer, and Jack Ross opted not to take him to this week’s training camp in Portugal.

Stewart Donald recently claimed that Lee Cattermole, George Honeyman and Joel Asoro had also expressed a desire to move on, and Josh Maja has also refused to sign a new deal on Wearside. Wahbi Khazri and Bryan Oviedo are expected to leave once their post-World Cup break is at an end.

Last week, Ross claimed that, in a couple of cases, things are not as clear cut as some have suggested, but the Sunderland boss is not prepared to negotiate with anyone who wants to leave. Instead, they will be encouraged to resolve their future as quickly as possible.

“It’s up to me to show the players this is a good place to be, and they can play a part in something exciting,” said Ross. “Others might have made up their minds completely that they don’t want to be here, and that’s an easy one for me because there’s no point in me involving people who don’t want to be here.

“That’s an ongoing process because you start to get a feel for things when the players are back and you can speak to them.

“What I will say – and we are low on numbers, there’s only about 16 training at the moment including four or five young ones – is that the players who have been here have been brilliant, really good, really responsive. They’ve enjoyed it and have worked hard, and that’s a good starting point for me.”

Having brought in six players already this summer, Ross’ next priority is to recruit a proven goalscorer at League One level. Leading target Lyle Taylor rejected a move to Wearside to join Charlton Athletic.
