MIDDLESBROUGH will do everything they can to keep Adama Traore at the Riverside Stadium next season – despite growing interest in him from the Premier League.

Wolves and Huddersfield Town are the latest top-flight clubs to have shown an interest in a player already being seriously considered by the likes of West Ham, Chelsea and Newcastle.

There has been tentative interest expressed in him from abroad, from a number of sides including Paris St Germain, but nothing concrete has materialised so far.

Intriguingly, there have been suggestions of an £18m clause in the player’s contract that would allow him to leave if one of the interested parties triggered it – although Middlesbrough have not commented on such claims at this stage.

Interest in Traore is only likely to increase as the earlier transfer window deadline in August edges closer given his speed and power to play down the flank.

Such traits not only attracted the eye of a number of clubs but also made him an important player under Tony Pulis in the second half of last season.

Pulis would be reluctant to lose the 22-year-old, who is currently on Middlesbrough’s pre-season training camp in Austria, even though he has shown in the past he is willing to consider deals he felt suited the club as a whole.

The Middlesbrough manager is looking to add to his options on the flanks and Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie is known to have been considered given his previous successes in the Championship. Stoke City are the favourites for the Scotland international.

Pulis is not looking to make wholesale changes to his squad this summer but does want to make adjustments. Paddy McNair and Aden Flint are the only two arrivals to date from Sunderland and Bristol City respectively.

Middlesbrough are adamant there have not been any official offers for their players except for the £300,000 bid for Fabio from Nottingham Forest.

There is an expectation that there will be offers tabled for the likes of Traore and Ben Gibson, the club’s two biggest assets after missing out on promotion.

Southampton are playing things cool at this stage but they have identified Gibson as a realistic target to come in this summer as they look to bolster ranks following Virgil van Dijk’s £75m January move to Liverpool.

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Neil Maddison has been handed a role within the club’s academy structure.

Darlington-born Maddison, who has signalled an intention to continue summarising Boro’s matches for BBC Tees, has been appointed academy ambassador and player welfare manager at Rockliffe Park.

He will look after players who spend time away from the club or are on loan. He will work closely with other clubs in the area, while assisting with recruitment of grassroots players.
