DURHAM have made a solid start to their final-innings chase against Warwickshire, although the odds are stacked against the home side, needing another 253 to win their Specsavers County Championship Division Two match at Emirates Riverside.

The visitors started day four with an attacking intent as the partnership between Keith Barker and Tim Ambrose swiftly passed fifty. Ambrose went for one big strike too many, firing a delivery from Ryan Pringle straight to Tom Latham at mid-wicket for 39.

Pringle claimed three wickets in the over as Jeetan Patel and Chris Wright departed in back-to-back deliveries looking to attack the off-spinner. Oliver Hannon-Dalby fell to Chris Rushworth in the following over before the declaration came, leaving Durham requiring 313 runs to win the match.

Durham were knocked back early in their reply when Cameron Steel edged a delivery from Wright to Ian Bell at third slip. Tom Latham and Will Smith stabilised the innings and ensured that the home side were only one down at the end of the first session at 60-1.
