I was confident Mabs Cross would finish in the frame in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot on Tuesday and she ran a great race to finish third.

The race panned out pretty much as I thought it would. She broke better than she’s ever done, tracked the right horses through and finished the race off the best.

She’s a real warm-up filly and takes a while to hit top gear, but she flies when she does and has a hell of an engine. People are asking me whether she might step up to six furlongs, and the July Cup – for which she would have to be supplemented – is an option, but I think that late finish is just her style and who knows whether the extra furlong would make the difference.

She has answered everything we’ve asked of her and she’s shown she’s one of the best sprinters around. There are a few other options such as the Nunthorpe and the Abbaye, while the Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh, which Mecca’s Angel won, could be an option.

Earlier on the card Charlie Bishop landed his first Group One win on Accidental Agent in the Queen Anne.

He and Eve Johnson Houghton have formed a great partnership and Charlie is really benefiting from a winter in Australia. You can see the difference in his riding.

It’s lower-key fayre at Ayr today, but I’d be hopeful of a winner or two.

Euchen Glen looks my best hope in the Sunsport (For The Winton Cup) Handicap. He ran a terrific race to come third at Haydock last time and he won this contest two years ago.

We’re still learning about Mooltazem, who joined us from John Gosden and runs in the News Scotland Handicap. He won last time up at Haydock and we’re pretty hopeful he can go in again.

I’d also keep an eye on Kings Gift, who runs in the Scottish Sun On Sunday Champion Handicap. He ran well when sixth at York last time and he’ll be spot on for this. Michael Dods’ horses are hitting top gear too.

I’m at Pontefract tomorrow, when I ride Amuletum in the Listed race, the Totesport.com Pontefract Castle Fillies' Stakes.

She’s got a bit to find on ratings but won by 10 lengths at Leicester last time and clearly has ability, while Mishaal will appreciate the drop down to six furlongs in the @totesport Follow Us On Twitter Handicap.
