MIDDLESBROUGH will kick off the new Championship season with a trip to Millwall, who challenged them for a place in the play-offs last term.

Boro have been handed a trip to the New Den on the opening weekend of the 2018-19 campaign, with their first home game seeing them entertain Birmingham City, managed by former Boro boss Garry Monk, seven days later.

They will then make the long trip to Bristol City, before back-to-back home matches against Sheffield United and recently-relegated West Brom complete their August programme.

September begins with a trip to Leeds United, their closest geographical rivals in the Championship, and will also feature matches against Norwich City and Swansea City, who could well feature in the promotion mix.

Aitor Karanka will be back at the Riverside with his Nottingham Forest side on October 6, and Boro’s final pre-Christmas game takes them to Reading on December 22.

Boro are at home on Boxing Day, with Sheffield Wednesday providing the opposition, and will sign off for 2018 with a home game against Ipswich Town on December 29.

New Year’s Day will see the Teessiders on the road, with Derby County the destination for their first game of 2019.

The home game with Leeds takes place on February 9, and Boro’s final home game of the season will see them entertain Reading on April 27.

The season ends with a trip to Rotherham United for a lunch-time kick-off on May 5.
