Edinburgh Motor Club, Scottish Days Trial, Fort William

DOUGIE LAMPKIN won the rain lashed Scottish Six Days Trial at Fort William for the twelfth time on Saturday.

That was the forty two year old's fourth victory in a row riding his Vertigo machine.

Right up to the final section on Ben Nevis Cookridge Beta rider James Dabill held a two penalty lead over the multi world and British champion then disaster struck.

The rear tyre was dislodge off the wheel rim and five penalties incurred for the stop so the running score climbed to eleven, three more than Lampkin.

Kinlochleven super-fit joiner Gary MacDonald hung on for the third place.

He was victorious in the Pre-65 trial the previous week.

One indication of Gary fitness is that he ran up Ben Nevis in one hour and forty eight minutes which is very near the record for the climb!

Denby Dale JST Gas Gas teamster Jack Price climbed to fourth place in a great ride relegating initial front runners Jack Sheppard and previous winner Sam Connor from mid-field.

Whitby's Andy Chilton, Leyburn joiner Richard Sadler and Faceby's Guy Kendrew all completed the event in that order. The finishing number was 239.

Lampkin and his cousin Ben Hemingway topped the Over 40 class. The Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club won the Club Team Prize.

Richmond Motor Club, Carpley Green Trial Carlton, Sunday

JAMES STONES won the Gerald Simpson Carpley Green Trial in sunny Coverdale on Sunday where Richmond club paid the price in terms of entries for what was a prestige Yorkshire Dales.

Sadly only fifty entries were taken for the trial mainly because of the Scottish Six Days event ending the previous afternoon.

For those who competed at the new venue it was a low scoring three lap twelve section trial.

Scottish contender Aran Drachenberg, Will Reynolds, Matthew Alpe and Tom Needham were the only hard route riders along with sole youth rider Guy Stones.

Richard Fraser continued his class winning run but Gary Pears matched him on scores but not on most cleans.

Andy Kearton and William Wood continued there almost weekly battle in the Green ranks but joined by Roger Williams who seems to be taming his new Montesa 4rt.

Robert Weatherill was just too sharp for Andrew Reynolds and Josh Brown in Youth Green.

Josh had an evening at Wetherby where he mastered the mud and rocks.

The Richmond club return to Coverdale on May 26/27 for the annual Blue Bar Trial.
