HARTLEPOOL UNITED will end their season dressed as clowns. The theme for the club’s final away game of the season annual fancy dress extravaganza has been announced.

And this time, for the game at Tranmere on Saturday, April 27, supporters will be at Prenton Park dressed up as clowns.

Last year, the final game saw them done up as mime artists, following in a well-established tradition which has attracted plenty of attention.

Over the years, supporters have travelled in a variety of different outfits: Smurfs, Rastas, Where’s Wally, penguins, Thunderbirds, Stormtroopers, Oompah Loompahs and morris dancers.

John Pearson, a Pools fan who organises the theme every year, said: “Every year we come up with something colourful and that will put smiles on people’s faces.

“We wanted to come up with something this year that can bring all fans together so hopefully as many as possible can join in and we can bring some laughter to the occasion.

“A clown costume is something we thought is quite readily available for people so it will be easy for people to get hold of and get involved.

“There hasn’t been a lot to laugh about in recent years at the club but we’re hoping we can bring some comedy to the terraces at Tranmere!”
