A DARLINGTON goal celebration could net the club a £20,000 prize.

They are on a shortlist of ten non-league clubs hoping to win an online vote for the best celebration this season, with Darlington’s entry coming from the home game with Chorley in January.

Reece Styche scored, after which the striker and team-mate Gary Brown leapt into a mound of snow beside the Blackwell Meadows pitch.

Around 70 Quakers supporters had spent the morning of the game clearing snow from the pitch, and without their efforts the game would not have been played.

A supporter had pledged to donate money to the Darlo Sponsor a Goal scheme - which raises money for the club - if Styche jumped into the snow if he scored, and in obliging he has entered Quakers into the running for the £20,000 prize.

The competition is ran by Marathon Bet and uses the hashtag #NonLeagueChallenge A competition spokesman said: “The #NonLeagueChallenge is the chance to earn your club a whopping £20,000 prize, a plethora of media coverage and a place in the history books – all for coming up with a unique goal celebration.

“In a nutshell, Marathonbet is searching the length and breadth of the country to find the best goal celebration in non-league football. It’s as simple as that.”

This is the competition's third season, Wealdstone and Corby Town having won in previous years.
