DARLINGTON'S Stephen Thompson says he is delighted to have signed a new two-year deal with Quakers.

He joined the club in September 2012 from Durham City, soon shortly after the club's Northern League season began, since when he has scored 83 goals.

Two came on Saturday in a 6-0 stroll against North Ferriby.

“It’s massive for me, because we’ve been talking about it for the last couple of weeks," he said.

"We’ve been through a lot over the last six seasons, and I can continue to make good memories over the next two years."

The win at the weekend lifted Quakers to tenth, while Ferriby's relegation is now effectively assured, though it has appeared inevitable for months.

"Saturday’s win was all just about being professional and making sure that we did everything right," added Thompson. "We played them away, struggled, and gave them something to hang on to. On Saturday in the first half we were clinical and it made a massive difference.

“Against the wind you thought it might have been a bit harder, but the lads kept going. We had a lot of the ball, and at times we couldn’t see, but we got the job done, and that was all that mattered.”
