GATESHEAD have work to do in their push for Wembley after losing grip of a lead they held twice in the FA Trophy semi-final defeat to Bromley.

The Heed will need to turn around a one-goal deficit after failing to hold onto a lead at freezing cold Hayes Lane

Bromley’s main man Louis Dennis levelled things up with a fine finish six minutes into the second half and then added the winner nine minutes from the end to seal a 3-2 win.

Gateshead had started strongly by scoring inside the first minute through Danny Johnson’s opener. Wes York and Johnson also struck the post.

But then a controversial penalty decision saw Bromley’s on loan Charlton forward Brandon Hanlan convert.

Johnson’s ninth goal in the last five games reclaimed Gateshead’s advantage before the break but Bromley found an extra gear and Dennis’s double delighted the Ravens ahead of the return leg this Saturday.

Johnson said: “We are still in the tie. I’m not quite sure about their first goal but obviously we started very well and took the lead.

“The conditions were difficult, in the second half we didn’t play anywhere near as well as we could have which was disappointing really because we were in control at 2-1.”
