With the exception of San Calvados my horses ran pretty much as anticipated at the Cheltenham Festival.

Saint Calvados was a bit keen and never really got into a rhythm against his more experienced rivals and I just let him come back in his own time. I haven’t spoken to Harry Whittington to see how he’s come out of the race, but hopefully he can bounce back next time.

I was very happy with Acey Milan, who was fourth in the Champion Bumper. He was the first English horse home and given he was taking on older horses, being only a four-year-old, it was an impressive run and he has a big future.

I fancied Wholestone to run into the places in the Stayers’ Hurdle and he duly did that with an excellent third, but unless you’re riding for Willie Mullins or Gordon Elliott this week, then you weren't going to get much of a look-in.

People are asking why the Irish horses are faring so much better. One argument is that the English horses may be more harshly treated by the handicapper than they are in Ireland, where the races are more competitive with more grouped finishes.

Ultimately though the Irish, namely Mullins and Elliott, largely have the best horses and you see a lot of English-based owners, like Jared Sullivan, Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, now sending horses to Ireland.

My performance of the week was from the RSA winner Presenting Percy, who will surely be one of the leading fancies for the Gold Cup this time next year, while the best training performance has to go to Willie Mullins, who brought Penhill back from nearly a year off the track to win the Stayers’ Hurdle.

It’s back to normality with three rides at Uttoxeter and depending on how things go I could bring up my century today.

My best ride of the day is Lechlade Magician, who lines up in the Betfred Mobile Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.

He won his bumper on debut by a very easy 12 lengths in heavy ground but then was very disappointing in a bumper at Newbury, albeit a very strong one, which was won by Acey Milan. I think we just need to put a line through that and, if he shows his old form, then he’ll be hard to beat.

Mozo, who runs in the Betfred St Patrick's Day Mares' Handicap Hurdle, has run at Uttoxeter the last five times. She’s pretty consistent and was second last time on very soft ground, although was beaten a very long way. She will have to improve a little bit on that and usually finds one or two too good, but she could be in the mix.

My only other ride is Fleminport in the Betfred "Treble Odds On Lucky15's" Handicap Hurdle. He comes here on a hat-trick and the ground will be fine, but this is his first run in a handicap and does lack a little experience in what looks a competitive race.
