JONNY WILLIAMS has delivered another blow to Sunderland manager Chris Coleman in the battle for Championship survival.

The midfielder is expected to miss half of the Black Cats’ remaining games as they look to close a five point gap to safety.

Sunderland remain rooted to the foot of the second tier after losing at Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

That was the scene where Williams tore his quadriceps and the 24-year-old will be missing for a month. He has already been sidelined with numerous injury problems this season.

That means he will also miss out on the opportunity to impress new Wales manager Ryan Giggs too.

The former Manchester United winger has replaced Coleman in charge of the Welsh and he is due to announce his squad for the China Cup tomorrow.

Williams had hoped to force his way into Giggs’ thinking for the two matches. They face China on March 22 and then Uruguay or thre Czech Republic on March 26.
