NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):
9 DUBRAVKA: Enjoyed a dream debut as he made three crucial saves to ensure Newcastle finished with a clean sheet
8 Yedlin: Performed superbly to keep Sanchez quiet and made a number of crucial blocks and tackles
9 Lejeune: Had a hand in Newcastle’s goal, and produced a dramatic sliding block from Sanchez to cap a superb defensive display
8 Lascelles: Excellent throughout as he won the physical battle against Lukaku and repelled a series of balls into the box
8 Dummett: Did well against the lively Martial and was nearly always in the right place to get a tackle or block in
8 Shelvey: Produced his best performance for quite a while as he outplayed both Pogba and Matic at the heart of midfield
8 Diame: Has improved markedly in the last few weeks and delivered his best display of the season as he shut down the Man United midfield
7 Ritchie: Held his nerve to slot home his first goal of the season and settle things with a clinical low finish
7 Perez: Ran himself into the ground as he pressed from the front and closed down Man United’s defenders whenever they had the ball
6 Kenedy: Wasn’t a major influence on the game, but used the ball well and tried to run at the visiting defence whenever possible
8 Gayle: Held the ball up excellently and linked effectively with the players around – delivered a crucial touch to set up Ritchie
Subs:
Joselu (for Gayle, 79)
Atsu (for Kenedy, 83)
Hayden (for Perez, 90)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Manquillo, Merino, Murphy.
MAN UNITED (4-2-3-1):

Man Of The Match: MARTIN DUBRAVKA – The Slovakia international was making his first appearance since joining Newcastle from Sparta Prague, and it is hard to imagine how it could have gone any better.
