York City 2 Spennymoor Town 2.

Spennymoor achieved another great result against a former Football League club to send their 450-strong travelling support back home happy again.

Moors have ruffled quite a few feathers this season both at home and away in their first season in the Vanarama National League North, and they showed their strong character once again by twice coming back from a goal down for a deserved point, the second equaliser sparking off mass celebrations in the away end.

They are now unbeaten in seven league and Trophy matches, and sitting nicely in fifth place, six points inside the play off zone.

Manager Jason Ainsley said; “We didn’t start great and they went 1-0 up with a sloppy goal, but the goal seemed to galvanise us, and we got a foothold in the game, although Chris Mason pulled off an excellent stop on the goalline to stop us going 2-0 down.

“I thought for the last 20 minutes of the first half we were the better side, and in the second half I thought we looked more of a threat. York couldn’t deal with our pace very well “For an away keeper, I don’t think Jordan Porter had too much to do. We fought back well into the game, scored an equaliser, and their keeper, Adam Bartlett, pulled off a great save in the last minute.

“I was disappointed in a way for our players because they put a lot of work into the game, which wasn’t bad going considering that we’d called off training during the week because of the bad weather. They got stronger as the game went on, and I think our fitness levels against a full-time outfit were exceptional. We’re frustrated that we didn’t come away with all three points.

“The turnout of the supporters was magnificent. There were around 450 of them, they made plenty of noise that lifted our players and that made a big difference.”

Martin Gray’s York started the game well and enjoyed most of the early pressure before they took the lead when Jonny Burn put them in the lead from a few yards out off a corner.

Moors slowly got back into the game, and Mark Anderson was off target before defender Chris Mason was a hero after 32 minutes when he somehow got back behind keeper Jordan Porter on the line, and managed to get a foot on the ball to stop it going in after Raul Correia had rounded the keeper.

Moors nearly levelled just on half time when Kallum Griffiths crossed for Glen Taylor, who could only head straight into the hands of keeper Adam Bartlett.

Moors nearly equalised at the start of the second half when Ryan Hall and Rob Ramshaw both had close range efforts blocked, and then the goal that the Moors fans had been waiting for came along on 51 minutes, when Ramshaw set up Hall, whose right foot effort took a deflection on its way past Bartlett.

There were chances at both ends, with Joe Tait heading wide at one end, and York’s top scorer Jon Parkin having an effort blocked at the other.

York went back in front on 70 minutes when Adriano Moke crossed well from the right for Aidan Connolly to turn the ball home.

But Moors battled back and levelled six minutes later when Taylor had a header blocked and sub Andy Johnson forced the ball in.

And they nearly won it with two minutes left when Bartlett pulled off a top class save from a Mark Anderson free kick, and the keeper made another stop from Shane Henry.

Team: Porter, Griffiths, Tait, Curtis, Mason, Henry, Ramshaw, Hall, Anderson, Foley (sub Johnson 43), Taylor.
