Spennymoor are hoping to stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches in league and Trophy when they go to Bootham Crescent this afternoon.

Moors have had a great run since they lost to Stockport in early December, winning four and drawing two of their six matches to put them into the fourth round of the FA Trophy and fifth place in the table.

York have surged up the table in recent weeks thanks to five straight wins, and in midweek they leapfrogged over Moors into fourth place on goal difference when they won at Telford United.

“It’s a game that we are all looking forward to,” said manager Jason Ainsley.

“When the fixtures came out in August, York City were one of the first fixtures I looked for first. Both teams have had a great Christmas and New Year period and are going into the game in good form, scoring plenty of goals so it promises to be a fantastic game.

“It wasn’t too long ago that both clubs were miles apart in the pyramid so to go there on a level playing field is a fantastic achievement. We will hopefully be taking a large following and we certainly don’t want to let them down. We are going there full of confidence and to take the game to them.”

The two sides last met back in September when York, then managed by Gary Mills, won 4-2, but Moors felt that they played some of their best football of the season, and were made to regret some costly defensive errors.

Ainsley might make changes to the team that defeated Solihull Moors last week. Keeper Jordan Porter stepped in for Jonathan Bland, kept a clean sheet and might keep his place, while midfielder Jamie Chandler missed last week’s game because of a virus and could return.

There will be at least 300 Moors fans making the short trip down the A1, and they should add to a great atmosphere as Moors look for their eighth away win of the season – only Salford and Harrogate have won more away games than them this season.

Two of Moors’ league games have been re-arranged because of their Trophy exploits.

The away game at Chorley has now been moved from 3rd February – the date of the next round of the Trophy against East Thurrock – to 6th March, and the home game against Boston has now been moved from 6th February to 27th February.
