THURSDAY’S Northern Echo Local Heroes Awards helped raise funds for Kieran’s Legacy, the charity set up in memory of one of the awards’ most inspirational former winners, Kieran Maxwell.

Kieran, who was from Heighington, died at the age of 18 earlier this year after a brave seven-year battle against cancer.

A talented gymnast and athlete, he carried the Olympic torch through Bishop Auckland ahead of the 2012 Games in London and achieved national honours on the running track.

Steve Cram was one of the celebrity guests at Thursday’s awards, and we have a signed photograph of the former World Record holder in action at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles to auction in aid of Kieran’s Legacy.

Some bids were lodged on the night, but anyone interested in the framed signed photo can Email their offer to echosport@nne.co.uk.

The auction closes at 5pm on Friday, December 15, and the highest bid received at that time will be the winner. The bidder will be notified at the start of next week.

Please include a telephone number and postal address with your bids, and the full offer will be donated to Kieran’s Legacy.
