SUNDERLAND fighter Josh Kelly extended his unbeaten professional record to four wins from four with an impressive stoppage of Mexican Jose Luis Zuniga in Belfast.

Kelly, who fought with Team GB at the Rio Olympics, became the first man to stop Zuniga as he trounced his opponent within the opening two rounds of their International contest.

The Wearside 23-year-old came out of the blocks in an explosive manner and rocked his opponent with an early uppercut.

Sensing the possibility of an early finish, Kelly pinned his opponents on the ropes at the end of the first round, but Zuniga covered up and survived to the bell.

He was unable to see out the second round though, with the referee stepping in as Kelly unleashed a barrage of powerful hooks.

Another strong uppercut pinned Zuniga back, and the fight was stopped after Kelly caught his opponent with a strong left hand.

“I started sharp and caught him off guard,” said Kelly. “I can only do what I can do in there. It was good to get out there in front of the Belfast crowd.

“He’s a Mexican champion and had never been stopped. He was brought in to give us a hard eight rounds. He was very tough, I was hurting my hands, but I got the job done.”
