THIRSK & Northallerton’s junior golfers are through to a national final.

After winning the Harrogate and District Union of Golf Clubs Junior Interclub League, the club was invited to enter the Junior Team Golf Home Nations Championships.

Thirsk & Northallerton progressed from the Regional Final at Pontefract last month to appear in the North-East semi-finals at Hallamshire.

Victory there means Thirsk & Northallerton will now represent the North-East in the national final this Sunday at Clitheroe alongside teams from the Midlands, North-West, South-East and South-West.

A Thirsk & Northallerton statement read: “Members of the club are immensely proud of the juniors and wish the team every success in the final.”

Oliver Hartmann, Harry Collinson, Joe Hay, Julia Czechowska, Ben Collinson, Richard Fawcett and Connor Stout will be playing in the final.

Award Nomination

A STUDENT greenkeeper from the North-East was shortlisted for a national award.

Ramside Hall’s Chloe Gallagher was featured in the Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year Awards after the culmination of years of hard work. She was one of six student greenkeepers named.

A GROUP of golfers defied atrocious North-East weather to wade, wedge, splash and slice their way round the Cathedral Course at Ramside Hall to help raise £6,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice.

Entrance fees from the four-ball competing teams representing companies from both Northern Bear and their clients kept the funds coming in.

Sponsors such as Durham car dealer, Pullman Volkswagen, added to the excitement by offering a new Polo for anyone who managed a hole-in-one – and, despite the wicked weather, there were a number of exciting near misses.
