NICOLA WILSON is lying after seventh position after an excellent dressage display at the European Eventing Championships.

The North Yorkshire Olympian rode Bulana to record a score of 35.1 penalties, with her performance helping the British squad to third position in the team rankings.

Wilson, who is based at Morton-on-Swale, near Northallerton, is three places ahead of fellow London 2012 silver medallist Tina Cook, with Britain trailing Germany and France in the team standings ahead of today’s crucial cross-country stage.

“There was a lot of waiting around for me, going last, but you’ve just got to stay in your own bubble,” said Wilson. “She (Bulana) just keeps getting better. That was another personal best for her, so that’s three in a row for her now. I am just over the moon.

“The team spirit is great. We have to enjoy the moment, and then focus on tomorrow’s cross-country course, which is huge. There is loads to jump – it’s a fantastically-designed and built course.”
