WITH two goals in a week, Craig Harrison’s first summer signing is proving a valuable one.

Jake Cassisdy was with the Hartlepool United boss at Airbus in 2010 when he was signed by Wolves.

Harrison has long kept in touch with the striker and they linked up at Victoria Park this summer.

Cassidy netted Pools’ leveller in midweek against Chester, a week after he scored at Macclesfield to earn another point.

He has formed a partnership up front with Padraig Amond and has been leading the line.

Harrison said on Tuesday that he hopes the pair contribute between 30 and 40 goals between them this season. Do that and Pools will be in the promotion mix.

“He is someone who has had a tough time last season with injury and I don’t feel he was given a fair opportunity at Wolves,’’ said Harrison.

“I’ve followed his career closely and he has been a friend over the years too. He would bounce things off me and ask advice. His agent is a friend of mine too and we have spoken on a both professional and personal basis.

“Jake will score goals, whatever level he’s playing at, when fit. The last 18 months before coming here was tough with niggly injuries to get over.

“When I came to this club I always wanted him here. You always have a forward plan and you have to be ready and it’s no coincidence he was my first signing.’’

Meanwhile, Jeff Stelling has returned to Pools in his position as club president.

He quit last season in protest at the club’s former manager, who led them to the brink of relegation amid a disastrous run of form.

But this week he revealed: “When I stood down as Honorary Club President it was because I did not approve of the club’s management, as some of you may have noticed.

“Five months on, and John Blackledge and Pam Duxbury have asked me to return. I am happy to say I have accepted.

“I had a long meeting with John and Pam before the Macclesfield game and I have to say I was impressed. Their ideas were the same as mine. First, stabilise the club to make sure that future generations have a Club to follow. Second, give fans more say in running the club. And third, regain our Football League status as soon as possible.

“Pam and John need our support – and I will be giving mine.’’

Blackledge is a director of Sage Investments, the company who took control of Pools following the exit of the former chairman and owners.
