YORK CITY warmed up for Tuesday night’s eagerly-awaited home game with Darlington in style as they cruised to a thumping 5-0 win at Bradford Park Avenue in National League North.

The Minstermen made a blistering start, and were ahead in the third minute as Dan Parslow headed home Louis Almond’s free-kick.

Amari Morgan-Smith doubled York’s lead nine minutes later, slotting home after Michael Rankine and Almond helped a long ball into his path.

Morgan-Smith claimed another goal before the interval, stabbing home after Almond’s shot had been saved, and with Almond causing a succession of problems, Sean Newton ensured it was 4-0 at the interval as he scored from close range.

York completed their scoring in the second half, with their fifth goal coming courtesy of an own goal as Luca Havern headed Almond’s cross into his own net.

There was a sting in the tail for the visitors, however, as Hamza Bencherif was dismissed for two bookings in the closing stages.

York: Worsnop, Law, Parslow, Bencherif, Whittle (Muggleton 64), Heslop, Moke, Newton, Almond, Rankine (Felix 56), Morgan-Smith (Smith 65).
