THINGS are not about to get any easier for Durham over the next two days as they seek the first win of their NatWest T20 Blast campaign.

This evening's visit of Nottinghamshire and tomorrow's trip to Headingley bring them up against two sides who have recently topped 220.

Riki Wessels, so often a thorn in Durham's flesh, made 110 as the Outlaws amassed 227 for three against Derbyshire, while Yorkshire made 233 for six against Worcestershire on Sunday.

Durham have had some success in restricting opponents in mid-innings with slower bowling, but have lost off-spinning all-rounder Adam Hickey with a broken right collarbone.

He suffered the injury in diving for a catch at Old Trafford and his place in the squad goes to 18-year-old Cumbrian Liam Trevaskis.

It is hoped New Zealander Tom Latham might be able to feature by the end of the week with more matches coming up at Grace Road on Friday and Worcester on Sunday.

Trevaskis, a left-arm spinner, took six for 31 in last year's Second X1 Championship final and is in the England Under 19 squad for the one-day series against India.

Off-spinner Ryan Pringle has done well in the last two games, with combined figures of five for 52 in eight overs.

But the 21 runs leaked in the last two overs against Leicestershire were crucial and against Lancashire the final six cost 64.

Coach Jon Lewis said: “Death bowling is an area we need to look at. It's not been great and we've been beaten by most sides in the last three overs.

“The periods in the middle of the game had been going well, but we felt we had one too many seamers in the earlier games so we brought in an extra batsman on Sunday.

“Our confidence has taken a hit and we need to remain positive. They're all big games and when you've lost your first four, you don't want to continue the losing streak. We have to improve and we need to learn how to win.”

Usman Arshad, previously regarded as a good death bowler, was the seamer to stand down at Old Trafford, with Cameron Steel and Gareth Harte being handed their senior T20 debuts.

Nottinghamshire boast a powerful line-up with Alex Hales joining Wessels at the top of the order, followed by Samit Patel, Brendan Taylor and all-rounder Steven Mullaney. England seamer Jake Ball is back in action after injury.
