LAST year’s Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival attracted more than 100,000 racegoers – and this year’s eight-day spectacular promises to be even more popular.

Now in its tenth year, the Summer Festival spans all of Yorkshire’s flat courses, and provides a wide range of entertainment to go along with the racing.

The Festival begins at Ripon on Saturday, before moving on to Redcar for ‘Help The Heroes Day’, a popular family fun day, 24 hours later.

The evening of Monday, July 24 sees Beverley host its Carnival night, with samba dancers, carnival floats and more, while Catterick stages an afternoon meeting on Wednesday, July 26.

Doncaster is the course in the spotlight on Thursday, July 27, with Radio One DJ Scott Mills performing a set after racing, and the music continues with a double-header on Friday, July 28.

Thirsk stages racing in the afternoon, before the focus shifts to York for an evening meeting that will be followed by a concert by Jess Glynn.

There is more music on Saturday, July 29, with York’s Sky Bet Day being followed by a gig by All Saints, and the Festival ends on Sunday, July 30 with a family day at Pontefract.

There will be a prize for the leading owner and trainer, with the Festival supporting the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity.

“The Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival is now a hugely-popular part of the region’s sporting calendar,” said Emma White, general manager of Go Racing In Yorkshire. “It gets bigger and better every year, and this year is no exception.

“The best thing about it is that there’s something for everyone. If you’re really passionate about your racing, there’s some cracking action at all of our courses. But if you just want a day out with a bit of a difference, there’s music concerts, carnivals and loads of things going on.

“And all of its open to the whole of the family. All of our courses are family-friendly, and in the first week of the summer holidays, it’s a great chance for the whole of the family to have a day out together with something for everyone to do.”
