DARLINGTON have captured their second summer signing with the arrival of James Caton.

The striker has impressed while on trial, training with the squad on Tuesday and scoring once in Wednesday's 5-1 friendly win at Newton Aycliffe.

Following the arrival of defender Dom Collins earlier in the summer, Caton's is manager Martin Gray's second arrival this summer.

But he will not be following up his interest in Richard Brodie, who had been on trial. He is now training with another club.

Caton, who has signed a two-year deal, finished last season with Dover in the National League, one of a number clubs the 23-year-old has already played for after beginning his career with Blackpool.

Since 2013 Caton has spent time on loan at Accrington, Chester, Southport, Mansfield and Wrexham, while he joined Southport on a permanent basis last summer before being released in January.
