AT the end of the last football season a correspondent, presumably a Sunderland fan, suggested that Petula Clark’s Doon Toon was an appropriate song to mark Newcastle’s relegation.
In view of the circumstances less than 12 months later, with both Middlesbrough and Sunderland facing the drop, and Newcastle going up, may I suggest Up Toon Top Ranking, a hit by Althia and Donna in 1978, is the apt song for the end of this footie season.
