ENGLAND (4-2-3-1):

6 Hart: Made a couple of routine saves from long-range efforts and swept up behind his defence effectively

7 Walker: Produced some effective surges down the right-hand side, with his pass infield helping set up Vardy’s goal

6 Stones: Held things together effectively at the heart of the back four and produced a smart clearance in first-half stoppage time

6 Keane: The Burnley man looks perfectly at home on the international stage, although much tougher tests lie in wait

7 Bertrand: Looked to get on the front foot at every opportunity and delivered some dangerous crosses into the middle

6 Dier: Was never troubled at the base of midfield and played some useful passes to England’s attacking midfielders

4 Oxlade-Chamberlain: Struggled in a deep-lying role and gave the ball away on a number of occasions – doesn’t suit the position he was asked to fill

7 Sterling: A mixed bag on occasion, but set up Defoe’s goal and looked dangerous when he ran at his opponent

6 Alli: Not one of the Spurs midfielder’s most effective performances, with Lithuania’s massed defence shutting him down

7 Lallana: Produced a superb flick to release Vardy in the second half and tried everything to break through the Lithuanian backline

8 DEFOE: Justified his recall with a clinical first-half strike and was always England’s most threatening attacking option

Subs:

7 Vardy (for Defoe, 59): Displayed commendable composure to score England’s second and stretched Lithuania’s back four late on 7

6 Rashford (for Sterling, 59): Didn’t have much of an opportunity to make an impact, but tried to force the issue cutting in from the flank
