Spennymoor Town 1 Halesowen 1.

Spennymoor assistant manager Tommy Miller admitted that Moors were below their best when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Halesowen on Saturday.

After beating the Worcestershire side away from home just a few weeks previously in the reverse fixture, Halesowen were this time a better-drilled outfit, and Moors had to settle for a point.

“Halesowen had a game plan, and that was to play with three centre halves, and make themselves difficult to break down,” he said. “They’d also had a couple of changes in personnel since we’d last played them.

“We didn’t really create much at all because we lacked that little bit of extra quality, so it was disappointing to drop points after beating Matlock in midweek.

“On the other hand, we’re still unbeaten in our last four matches, and still in with a shout of finishing in the play offs.”

Moors have a big week ahead of them now, with an away game at fourth placed Warrington on Tuesday, and then they’re at home to second placed Nantwich on Saturday.

Halesowen, who included former Darlington player Mor Diop, took the lead with a 25 yarder by Cameron Steele midway through the first half, and soon after Moors had a goal by Graeme Armstrong disallowed for handball.

Moors keeper Dan Lowson made a good save from Diop before the break, but in the second half Moors were a lot better and they equalised on 72 minutes when sub Rob Ramshaw cleverly beat his marker and fired home.

In the closing stages, Jamie Chandler and Glen Taylor both went close for Moors, who couldn’t quite make the breakthrough.

Lowson, Griffiths, Curtis, Mason, Watson, Mitchell (sub Ramshaw), Chandler, Henry, Anderson, Dowson (sub Smith), Armstrong (sub Taylor).

Subs not used: Tait, Baldwin .

Attendance: 668.

Blyth, meanwhile, are closing in on the title after beating Rushall Olympic 2-1, Jarrett Rivers scoring in stoppage time after Rushall had equalised in the last minute. David McTiernan had earlier put Blyth ahead after 72 minutes.

Whitby did themselves a power of good by winning 2-0 at second placed Nantwich, with goals by David Carson and Dale Hopson, and they now move up to second.
