Spennymoor Town 1 Buxton 1.

Spennymoor coach Alan White said that there were still plenty of positives to draw upon after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Buxton at the Brewery Field on Saturday.

Moors had to come from behind after gifting Buxton an early goal, but they are still just five points away from the EvoStik League play offs with games in hand on all the teams above them.

“We’ve played Buxton twice now, and we’ve dominated them both times,” said White. “The pitch was heavy and didn’t help us, but we still created quite a few chances in the game.

“After we conceded, we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves, and the players reacted really well and got the equaliser. We maybe should have gone on and won the game, but missed chances are the story of our season.

“There were a lot of positives to draw upon, and now we have to build on those and go on a winning run.”

Moors had plenty of pressure early in the game, but they fell behind when keeper Andy Rafferty lost his footing on the greasy surface and spilled the ball, allowing Brad Abbott a simple tap in.

Moors recovered and levelled on 32 minutes when Andrew Johnson controlled the ball well inside the box, and fired past former Hartlepool keeper Jan Budzt.

Moors were unlucky not to take the lead when Glen Taylor hit the post, then Mark Anderson had an effort cleared off the line.

Budzt pulled off a good save from Johnson, then Shane Henry fired wide, all before half time.

After the break, Taylor put a good chance wide after being set up by Johnson, and James Curtis had a header cleared off the line.

Moors were hoping to give Jack Orrell his debut, but the loanee was denied permission to leave Hartlepool by the Football Association after both clubs had announced his signing on Friday. Moors have not been given any indication when or if the deal will go through.

Moors play one of their games in hand on Tuesday night against Marine at the Brewery Field.
